The Children's Physical Developmental Clinic (CPDC) at Bridgewater State University (BSU) is a unique physical, motor and recreation program that has been serving children with disabilities from Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island since January 1974. The program is designed to enhance perceptual-motor, gross motor, sport, aquatic and leisure skills as well as social development of children and youth with disabilities, ages 18 months to 18 years.
The CPDC program is conducted for five hours on Saturday mornings throughout the academic year. Each child accepted participates in an individually prescribed program conducted at the Kelly Gymnasium and Pool Complex.
To continue to promote a truly multi-disciplinary professional preparation program, a staff of 100 BSU undergraduate students from 12 majors has been chosen for the 2012-2013 academic year. The CPDC program provides BSU students with a structured and closely supervised program enabling the application of knowledge and development of competencies for careers in teaching and human service. A sense of life long learning and devotion to community service are additional attributes nurtured by the CPDC program.
Lectures from medicine, psychology and education have been chosen to foster a cross-disciplinary learning environment and present specific lectures related to the care, treatment, rehabilitation and education of children with disabilities. The lectures share knowledge and skills pertinent to services and programs capable of enhancing the lives of children and youth with disabilities. The lectures are given at weekly seminars conducted between 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Saturday mornings in the BSU Conant Science Building Room 120.
