Setting Up a BSC Dell Notebook for Home Use
Congratulations on the purchase of your new BSC Dell notebook computer. Your
computer is pre-loaded with all the software from the factory, but there are a
few preliminary steps you can follow to ensure your computer is up to date, and
ready to gain access to the BSC wireless network. Please run these three simple
tasks before arriving on campus. Please note that all steps require an Internet
connection to work properly.
1. Install Windows Updates
- Install the latest Windows updates and patches. To check if your
computer needs any updates, click the Start button and select Microsoft
Update. This will launch Internet Explorer and take you to the Microsoft
Update website. You may also access Microsoft Update by opening Internet
Explorer, clicking the Tools button, and selecting Windows Update.

- Click the Express button, Microsoft Update will start to scan your
computer and determine if any updates are needed.
- If updates are needed, they will be listed under the Review and
Install Updates page, click the Install Updates button to begin updating.

- Once the updates are installed, you may be asked to restart your
computer.
After arriving on campus, you will be able to configure your notebook to
access the wireless network. Please visit
http://it.bridgew.edu/telecomm/perfigo/directions.cfm for directions on how
to configure your notebook.
