to read about the extra options available that
you may wish to consider when making your purchase.
Ordering, Payment & Finance Options
If you are using a major credit card you may order online or by phone. We suggest ordering online.
If you are paying by check you may order by phone only.
If you will be receiving financial aid, it will generally not be paid to you until after the start of the semester (usually mid-October).
You may wish to consider financing your purchase through Dell
until you receive your financial aid.
If you are financing through Dell you may order by phone only.
If you choose to order by phone be sure to mention Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts and reference BSC's order number
(Member ID: US32566758).
It is a good idea to have these pages handy and to have the recommended configuration available because the Dell representative
may suggest other options. When ordering, it is best to stay with the BSC recommended configuration and options.
It is often best to order the standard configuration first, then consider
options after you have received your computer.
Options To Consider
Here are some options to consider when making a purchase
of a notebook computer.
-
Upgrad Warranty
-
BSC's base package includes a three year parts, labor and accidental damage warranty.
The length of warranty purchased should be based upon the expected
length of ownership of the notebook computer.
With an increased four year warranty,
incoming freshmen will be covered all four years that they are here
at Bridgewater State College.
-
9 Cell Battery/90 Watt Power Supply/Extra Battery
-
The standard battery lasts about 3 or 4 hours before it needs
recharging. There are charging stations around campus but you can
upgrade to the 9 Cell battery and the 90 watt power supply or you can
purchase an additional standard battery. Both options can reduce the
need to recharge as often and increase convenience and portability of a
student's notebook computer.
-
Larger hard drive
-
BSC's base package includes a 60 gigabyte hard drive which will meet the
requirements for most students. A hard drive with high capacity allows
for more programs, documents, and other files to be stored on your
notebook computer.
-
Color Printer and Cable
-
Students can print in any BSC computer lab, but may prefer to have their own
printer. Students with their own printer can print out documents any time
of the day and won't have to worry about when computer labs are open or the
availability of printers in the labs.
-
Carrying Case, Backpack or Wheeled Case
-
Students will need a safe and easy way to transport their notebook computer, and
accessories, around campus. A carrying case or backpack is an ideal solution that
can also be used to carry other materials needed for class. If the backpack or case
is getting too heavy to carry, a wheeled case can ease the burden.
-
External Mouse
-
Some people find the touchpad mouse on a notebook computer difficult to use. An external mouse, corded or wireless, can allow for
a more comfortable workspace environment.
-
RJ45 Network Cable
-
An RJ45 network cable is needed to connect a notebook computer to a network
access jack. This allows wired access to the BSC network. Residence students
will receive one as part of their ResNet package when they come on campus.
Non-residence students may want to purchase an RJ45 cable if they need a
wired connection. This cable is not needed to connect to the BSC network
when using the built-in wireless network adapter.
-
Surge Suppressor
-
A surge suppressor will protect a student's notebook computer against
power-spikes, while plugged into a wall outlet, which could harm a
notebook computer.
-
Locking Cable
-
This theft deterrent allows you to lock a notebook computer to a desk or
any fixed location.
