How to Compress (Zip) Files
Compresing a document, sometimes loosely referred to as 'zipping' a file,
is the process of using less computer memory to store the same digital information.
A compressed folder will take
up less space on your hard drive and will be faster to transfer to your students
over the College network and the Internet than an uncompressed file. Also,
since many applications such as Outlook and Blackboard only accept one file
at a time when attaching or uploading files, compressing multiple documents
into one 'zipped' folder provides a simple way of attaching or uploading multiple
documents at one time.
To Compress (Zip) a Folder:
- Locate the folder you would like to compress
- Right-click the folder
- Select the Send To option and then the Compressed (zipped) folder option
- The compressed folder will be created in the current folder
To Extract Compressed Files (Unzip):
- Locate the folder containing compressed files

- Right-click the folder
- Select Extract All. . .
- The Extraction Wizard window will open
- Click the Next button
- Click the Browse button to select the location to which you want the extracted files saved
- Click the Next button
- Click the Finish button
- A window will open displaying all documents contained in the compressed folder
