To access the Bridgewater State College wireless network you will need a computer with a wireless network adapter that supports the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g WPA / WPA2 standard. Most laptops today are sold with a wireless adapter or can be purchased with an optional bundle containing wireless support. Support for wireless access is available especially for laptops; add to that the increased mobility and ease-of-use of laptops and it is recommended that faculty, staff and students who are in the market for a new computer consider purchasing a laptop. For recommended specifications for new computers please see the Supported Systems web page.
Please visit the Bridgewater State College Notebook Computer Program website for notebook computer recommendations and purchasing information.
For those people who already own a laptop, joining the wireless community is very simple. The only hardware requirement is an 802.11 a/b/g WPA / WPA2 compliant wireless network adapter. Software which comes with the wireless network adapter will need to be installed and configured as well. Please see the updated instructions for setting up your wireless connection. Once the wireless adapter is configured, authentication with BSC credentials is required. Wireless network adapters are available at computer and electronics stores.
iPhone's running software version 2.0 or higher have support for 802.1x and are able to connect to the BSC wireless network. If you are running a software version earlier than 2.0, you can download an updated version from the Apple website. The iTouch does not natively support 802.1x and requires the purchase of an 802.1x supplicant from Apple. Documentation for configuring your iPhone or iTouch can be found on the wireless documentation page.
