Problem: Antivirus Software Definitions Validation Failure
Summary: You are required to update your antivirus defintions.
Description: Antivirus Software is required to have up to date definitions on all networked computers in order to gain internet access. If the Clean Access Agent detects qualifying AntiVirus software that is out of date, you'll be prompted to update it. The process of updating antivirus software varies from vendor to vendor, however, most products will prompt you when updates are available. If you are using the college supported Microsoft Forefront antivirus, your defintions will be automatically installed by Automatic Updates. To update your definitions manually, visit the Microsoft Update site and follow the on screen directions
You are currently being placed in a Temporary Role with limited network access to perform the necessary updates.
Q: What can happen if my antivirus software is not updated?
A: Your Anti-Virus software will not be aware of new viruses. New Viruses are detected every day, and it's important for your antivirus software to be updated.
Viruses can do a wide range of things. They can be harmless and simply pass around annoying messages, or they can be very destructive and wipe out all of your data. Most of the time when there is a problem with access to the internet, it is because of an infected PC attacking a system on the Internet, thus blocking legitimate internet access. Following this guide will help reduce the number of infected PCs and related problems.
Q: What if I don't have Microsoft Forefront antivirus, and I don't have current definitions?
A: Bridgewater State can only provide support for Microsoft Forefront antivirus. If you cannot get current definitions for your antivirus product, you will have to remove it and use Forefront instead.
