CCA Home > Automatic Updates Validation Failure

Problem: Clean Access has determined you do not have Automatic Updates set to download and install automatically.

Summary: Instructions on how to enable Automatic Updates and configure it to Download and install automatically.

Description: Automatic Updates must be enabled and set to download and prompt for installation on all ResNet computers in order to gain internet access.

You are currently being placed in a Temporary Role with limited network access to perform the necessary updates.

Q: Why can't I take care of installing updates manually?
A: From our experience this issue was not being addressed by an adequate number of users. As a result, unsuspecting machines were often hijacked and used to propagate viruses and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.

Q: I just did this, why am I still failing this requirement?
A: Some updates require a reboot before others can be installed. Thus, there will be times when you need to repeat these steps to get all critical updates.

Please complete the following to enable Automatic updates on your Windows XP machine:

  1. Click Start, (If you use the classic Start Menu, click Settings), then click Control Panel.

  2. Click Automatic Updates.

Tip: If the Automatic Updates is not visible, click Switch to Classic View.

  3. Select the top radio button to Automatic (recommended). In the drop down menus, select Every day and choose a time that your computer will be turned on. We recommend you set this to sometime late night or early morning.

  4. Click OK to confirm your setting. Return to the Clean Access Network Login screen. Click the Next button at the bottom of the page. If you meet all other network requirements, you will be granted network access. If there are other requirements you do not meet, you will be given instructions on what you need to do.
