In accordance with College policy, Dell GX1-450 desktop & tower computers are scheduled for replacement. Installation will be by department, and advance notification will be sent via letter. Someone from Technical Services will contact a departmental representative to arrange a date for the upgrade and the removal of the old computer. The process of delivering all the new computers will take about seven to eight weeks. The GX1 450 computers are leased and will be returned to the manufacturer.

* Windows XP will look very much like Windows 2000, in order to ease the transition to the new operating system. After you have worked with your new computer for a while, if you wish to switch to the new XP user interface, this can be done with a couple of clicks of the mouse through the Control Panel and the Taskbar Start Menu. |

Data that resides on your existing computer's hard drive (C:\) needs to be backed up to your network drive and/or zip disk ahead of time. Assistance in doing this will be available from Technical Services. If you have specialized software installed on your computer, you will need to re-install it on your new computer. Computer games, MP3 files, or third party screen savers and personal software will not be backed up or re-installed. If you have questions about the new computer or the replacement process, please Information Technology at x1236, or Matt Maderos, Manager of Desktop Services, at x1236. |
