Using Self-Service Password Manager

The BSC Self-Service Password Manager enables users to retrieve forgotten network passwords if the users can correctly answer their self selected set of questions.

This document describes:

Access to the BSC Self-Service Password Manager is controlled through user security policies. An authorized user can access the Self-Service Password Manager from a web browser at

Enrolling for Password Self-Services

Before you can use BSC password self-service, you must enroll. You get

an opportunity to enroll when you log in, if you have not yet enrolled.

1. To start the enrollment process, click Enroll/update self-service profile
2. Prove your identity by entering your username and password.

3. A page opens with a list of questions.




4. Select a question and provide an answer for all five questions. You may pick any of the questions from the drop-down list.
Note: Answer questions carefully! If you misspell an answer during enrollment, then the misspelled answer is the “correct” answer. If you can answer a question in more than one way, consider selecting a different question. Answers are not case-sensitive.
5. Click Next and close the Password Self Service window.

Resetting Your Primary Network Credentials

If you forget your primary authentication password, go to the BSC Self-Service Password Manager at

http://it.bridgew.edu/support/pwd/ and select Reset Your Primary Authentication Password.

1. Identify yourself by entering your username and domain, and click next.

2. A page opens with some of the questions you answered at enrollment. Answer them and click Next.

3. The Network Password Reset Form appears:

4. Enter a new password and confirm it.

5. Click Next and close the Password Self Service window.



 

Using Windows NT/2000/XP

  1. Be sure you are logged onto the computer.
  2. Press the CTRL - ALT - DEL keys at the same time.
  3. In the Windows Security window that pops up, press the change password button.
  4. In the dialog box that pops up, be sure your username is correct, then enter your old password in the field provided.
  5. Type in your new password in the field provided, and then retype your new password in the second new password field.
  6. Click OK to change your password and return to the Windows Security window.
  7. Click the cancel button to return to Windows.

Using Windows 95/98

  1. From the start menu select Programs then select MS-DOS Prompt.
  2. At the command prompt, type in the following commands:
    1. net password \\boyden_pdc
    2. Press enter
    3. At the prompt, enter your username then press enter
    4. When prompted, enter your old password and then your new password.

Using MAC OSX

  1. From the desktop, click the blue apple icon in the top left hand corner of the screen.
  2. Click System Preferences
  3. Make sure that the "Show All" Button is selected.
  4. Under the system heading, double click the accounts icon
  5. Under the password tab, your username along with a password and confirm password fields should appear.
  6. Click the password field and begin typing.
  7. You will be prompted to authenticate yourself. Enter your current BSC password to continue.
  8. Next, click the password form and type the new password you wish to change to. Your password must be 6-14 characters, including letters and numbers.
  9. Type the password into the confirm password field
  10. Close the box by clicking the red circle in the top left side of the box. If successful, you will be prompted that your keychain password will be changed to your new password. If not, you will be prompted to enter another password that meets the above criteria.
  11. Your password has been successfully changed. Use this new password for webmail, library resources and to log on to any of our network machines.

Using Webmail

To change your BSC Outlook WebMail password, you will need to access your email via the web using Outlook Web Access (OWA).

  1. Login to WebMail from the BSC Home Page
    Note: if your password has expired the password change box will come up automatically - see below
  2. Select OPTIONS from the bottom left corner of the screen

       

  1. Scroll down to "Password" and select "Change Password"
  2. You will see the following screen

  1. Enter your BSC Credentials
    • BSC User Account > the username you use to log on to WebMail
    • Passwords must be 6 to 14 characters long and combine letters and numbers
  2. Click OK when all information has been entered.
  3. You should receive a confirmation box that the password has been successfully changed.
  4. Passwords expire every 180 days.
