What happens when you cross the subject - spyware with spywear subjects? You get the 2 nd annual Be Security Conscious Expo on Thursday, October 26 from 10 am – 2 pm in the MoakleyCenter Atrium. As part of National Cyber Security month, BSC will be offering many useful tips for home and on campus in a fun atmosphere. In keeping with this year’s theme, spyWEAR, everyone is invited to come as their favorite spy. There will be prizes for the best and most creatively dressed. The competition is open to all of the BSC community (students, faculty and staff). To be eligible for this and the random drawing you must have your Connect Card swiped at HQ (the main desk in the Moakley Atrium).
IT staff and BSC police will be available to answer your cyber security questions such as what makes a good password, the dangers of illegal downloading, the possible harm of providing too much personal information on websites, warnings and cautions against phishing attacks and identity theft. Special guests for this event include members of the town police, the district attorney’s office and the FBI. The program is setup to accommodate everyone’s varying schedules. If you only have a minute or two you can breeze through and collect some important information. Those with more time might want to ask questions or view demonstrations. There will also be short presentations (5-10 minutes) by the special guests in the Moakley Auditorium. Later in the day, a very special program will be made to the Burnell students with a follow-up session for parents, grandparents and older brothers and sisters on the seriousness of cyber security and the young - especially the growing problems of cyber bullying.
The Be Security Conscious Expo is a wonderful opportunity for office staffs as well as classes to make this a group experience. In addition to prizes and giveaways there will be free refreshments. For more information on cyber security visit: http://it.bridgew.edu/security/ throughout the year.
