Representatives
from the IT Division wore white coats and scrubs in a medical theme to help the
college community maintain virus-free, safe and sterile computing lifestyles.
The "clinic" focused on the importance of protecting personal
information, virus prevention, password management, and offered an assortment of
educational computer security topics for Students, Faculty and Staff. According
to Arthur Slotnick, the event coordinator, "despite the heavy rain, the
clinic had more than
500 visitors between 10:00am to 2:00pm."
Staff at the Admissions desk of the "clinic" distributed the new "Be Security Conscious" brochure containing information on how to prevent identity theft and other security best practices, while members of the college community swiped their Connect cards to enter drawings for prizes.
In the operating room, Campus Police engraved students' notebook computers. Outside the OR, McADOC provided stress reduction tips. IT Support Services, Network Services, ResNet, and the Teaching & Technology Center provided virus prevention, data back-up, and password management tips. CompuTrace, software that tracks lost notebook computers; Software Secure, software to controlling notebooks in the classroom; and Dell also had representatives in attendance.
