Connecting Non-College Owned Computers Policy

Purpose

This policy is to notify college vendors the requirements for connecting to the BSC network.

Policy Statement

All non-college computers will be required to meet minimum standards for security before being allowed to connect to the college network.

Applies to

All vendors and users of non-BSC owned computers that connect to the BSC network.

Responsibilities

Because non-BSC owned computers have not been subject to college policy and procedures that protect the integrity of the network infrastructure including college standards such as running Windows updates, anti-virus software, etc., there is increased risk of virus propagation as well as the potential to create performance problems on the college production network.

For this reason all non-BSC owned computers must now meet the following minimum standards for security before being allowed to connect to the college network:

  • All computer users will be required to acquire and use a BSC account.
  • All computer users will be required to sign the College Acceptable Use policy.
  • All computers will be scanned for vulnerabilities and viruses before being allowed on the network.
  • Internet bandwidth will be provided for college business use only.
