Software Requests

The Information Technology Division utilizes a software requests process for installing appropriate software on campus lab and classroom computers. The software requests policy was created to ensure that software is available when and where it is needed.  In addition, computer performance should be enhanced via this process as the computers will not be overloaded with software no longer being used.

The excerpts below have been taken from the full Software Requests Policy.

IT Funded Software vs. Department/School Funded Software

The Information Technology Division funds enterprise-wide software only. Examples of enterprise-wide software are: Blackboard, Moodle, the Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Forefront anti-virus, SPSS, Banner, etc.

If you are pursuing specialized software specific to your department, please consult with your department chairperson or dean for funding.

New Faculty Software Requests

If you are a new full-time faculty member, and you require specialized software for your office computer or courses, please consult with the Office of Academic Affairs. Academic Affairs will review your software requests and fund your requests on a case-by-case basis.

Office Desktop and Notebook Software Requests

Best-pricing quotes for software can be obtained through the BSU Software Liaison at BSUsoftware@bridgew.edu. The Software Liaison will obtain a quote for the requested software from College approved vendors (or outside vendors in special cases). The Software Liaison will forward the quote to you to pass along to your department chairperson, dean, or supervisor for purchase with your department or school funds. Once the software arrives, please provide the Software Liaison with a copy of the software and licensing for record-keeping purposes.

Classroom and Lab Software Requests

If you wish to have software installed in appropriate campus technology labs and/or classrooms, please inform your department chairperson of your software needs and then fill out the software requests online form to provide important information such as the number of licenses to be installed, the locations for the installations, etc.

All requests for instructional software for use on public computer workstations in classrooms, computer labs, the library, and other educational work spaces will be reviewed through the Information Technology division. Consult your department chairperson and/or school dean for funding for the purchase of the necessary software. Classroom and Lab Deadlines

Software requests should be submitted to the Software Liaison via the software requests online form by the deadlines listed below prior to the desired semester to ensure enough time for evaluation, purchase/licensing, and installation.

Semester Classes Begin Software Request Final Deadline
Spring Third week of January October 15
Fall First week of September April 1

Software requests received after the deadlines will be evaluated for installation on the Citrix server.  If the software will not work within the Citrix environment, and the request was submitted within the first 30 days of the semester, Information Technology will evaluate if the request can be incorporated into the final updated image for installation at the end of the 30 day period.  At that point, all images will be considered "frozen" and no further changes will be made until the following semester.

Software Testing

IT Systems staff will perform basic testing of requested software for compatibility with other programs and operating systems, but is unable to thoroughly test applications.
